We have gotten a lot of rain in the last few months, and as a result we have some pretty wonderful green hills in Bommer Canyon to show for it. The yellow wildflowers are everywhere, and we even had a week where millions of painted lady butterflies were everywhere! Flying around thanks to a boom in their population because of the rain, and heading north from Mexico.
We spent a fun afternoon hiking the hills of Bommer Canyon and taking in all of the beautiful sights.
There is nothing quite like being outdoors in nature hiking, and talking, and imagining. I still remember the trips my dad would take my brother and I on up in the hills of Pasadena. We would each always start looking for the best hiking stick, which he would then carve with the pocket knife he always carried. And as we walked he would tell us stories about when he was little and show us all the poisonous plants to watch out for. It was my favorite thing to do with my dad, and I hope the boys remember the same sort of joy being out in nature as they get older.
