William at 8 1/2

William is very interested in basketball lately.  He was home sick last week and when I asked him if he wanted to watch something on TV he said, "Can we watch basketball?".  It is what he does as soon as he comes home from school, what he likes to do every recess at school, and even takes his basketball with him just about anywhere we will let him.  He is getting very good at shooting, though my plants are suffering every time he misses.

He and Elliott love to listen to Harry Potter in the car (William has red the first 4 books already) and likes to play the Harry Potter Lego game on his iPad.  He also can be found reading quite a bit, though he might not admit it is something he likes to do.  He likes reading his Harry Potter books over again, and a Horrible History series, as well as Heroes in Training.

His favorite color is gold, his favorite food is still Swedish meatballs or homemade mac and cheese.  His favorite treat is homemade ice cream with fudge, and caramel.  His favorite things to do at school is to play on the iPads, computers, and recess.  He recently was recognized for having the highest overall reading score in his class (1048 while the average was around 500).  He is quite the reader!

William is in the process of making some new friends.  He is seeing to consequences recently of making poor choices in friends.  He is still friends with Ethan Lewis, but is transitioning away from some of his classroom friends and over to some friends at school from baseball.  He is struggling to control his impulsive behavior, and do what he is asked the first (or 4th) time.  Things come so easily to William that teaching him to do more, or work harder is difficult and does not come naturally to him. We are trying to teach him the importance of pushing yourself to be your best.

William feels his good qualities are basketball, math, and reading.  I think William has a good head on his shoulders, and is good at figuring out what is right and wrong.  He is a good thinker, and is able to really think deeply about questions and come up with really good insights.  We love him a ton, and are grateful to be able to watch him grow.
