Apple Picking in Oak Glen

This year Peter was old enough to resume our annual trip up to the mountains to go Apple Picking.  We started, as usual, at Snowline to watch the apple cider donuts being made.  Each boy got a bag of 1/2 a dozen donuts, which Peter would not even taste!  The other boys were happy that Peter was being so picky because that just meant they got to eat his.   

Then we were off to Willowbrook and their 100 year old apple trees.  We have always loved how kid friendly Willowbrook is, with all of their animals and tractors for the kids to climb.  However, we have never seen them as busy as we did this year.  Word must be getting out on what a great little orchard it is. 

We still managed to find apples for the kids to pick.

With some just the right size for little arms.

But we also got to try out the big apple picker.

It was a little tricky for Peter,

but the big kids thought it was really great, 

and just the right level of challenging to hook their perfect apple and pull it off the tree.

Peter stuck with the lower hanging ones, with a little help from his brothers.

Then it was off to see all the cute animals.

We visited the cute baby piggy, Delilah.

And their little rabbit in the rabbit hutch.

And even their mini pony and donkey.

Then they hopped on the tractors,

and did some exploring,

before it was time to press a bucket full of apples into cider.

It took a lot of teamwork and arm muscles

but the results were delicious!

We took the rest of our apples home to make a big batch of delicious apple sauce.

The peeling of the apples, and stealing of the slices may have been the best part!
