Right after the kids finished their online schooling for the year we took a very needed trip down to La Jolla to the Beach and Tennis Club. We had all been cooped up at home for 15 months and were ready for a change of scenery. Although it was a little different than we had been used to-we had to have our temperatures checked when we arrived, wear masks around the property, and the maids would not clean up during our stay-we found plenty of opportunities to run around and get some fresh air.
The first afternoon we arrived we immediately headed out to dip our toes in the sea and feel the squishy sand on our toes.
Elliott's favorite thing to do was to work on building his massive sand hole with reinforced wall, or head out much farther into the ocean than I was comfortable with to jump in the waves.
He had a good helper in Peter who was happy to help Elliott, do some moderate wave jumping, play ball with daddy, or chase the seagulls-his absolute favorite activity.
William spent almost the entire trip in the hotel room. This picture is of the one trip he made out to the sand. He preferred being inside reading a book or listening to music. I am sure he was grateful to be old enough to stay by himself in the room now.

We made a trip out to the Lego store while we were in San Diego, and the boys enjoyed playing with their Legos, reading, or watching movies and eating popcorn at night back in the room. We also had some delicious ice cream, ice cream bars, and ice cream sandwiches to look forward to at the end of the day. The boys also love our family trips because they get to choose a sugar cereal, which we don't usually have-this time they each chose their own box of Lucky Charms.
It was such a wonderful, relaxing trip,
hopefully full of wonderful memories for the boys,
and just what we needed after a very tough year.
